“Infusing joy into people’s core memories and everyday moments through floral artistry.”
-Tulipani Floral Studio’s mission statement.
Meet Natalie Call, owner of Tulipani Floral Studio:
Yes, I was the little girl who spent hours making clover blossom necklaces at the hometown high school football game instead of actually watching the game. And of course I’m the girl who is transported to my grandmother’s garden when I smell a daffodil. But I believe my truest connection with flowers came when my husband and I were transplanted to another state for grad school. With two little kids and no money, we spent lots of time at the local library. Lots. We took advantage of all the amenities: story time, music time, even the pile of outdated periodicals labeled “free” for the public to take. In that pile I stumbled on some gems: gardening magazines. We had a tiny house with an even tinier yard, but it was space enough to plan, dig, and create beauty of my own. Those gardening magazines gave me the street education I needed to feel some confidence in the things I planted and how I cared for them. I quickly learned that flowers not only make the world a more beautiful place, they nurture our souls.
Fast forward to 2019 and my husband asking if, now that all the kids are in school, I plan on going back to work. When I told him I wasn’t really interested in the career I had before, but if I could choose anything I would be a floral designer, I expected him to laugh. He knew that floral design was a hobby of mine, and he knew that it wasn’t going to fund our retirement or our kids’ college education. But in true maverick fashion, my risk-taking, goal-chasing husband said I should absolutely go for it. So that is how Tulipani Floral Studio was born. I got the education and invested in all the implements, and the rest is history. Floral design is the perfect blend of my favorite things: nature and art.
That flowers nurturing our souls statement? I stand by it. I firmly believe, and this is from experience, that flowers heal. They help us feel loved and lift our spirits in a way no other gift does. They connect us with past memories and transport us to people and places we love. I believe this work we do at Tulipani Floral Studio not only makes the world more beautiful, but it brings joy, healing, and love that lifts people. And that is why our lovely studio exists.
Aside from designing bespoke weddings and events, you can still find me growing flowers in my cutting garden, reading a book on my back porch in the crisp morning air, hiking with our dog, Luna, skiing the fresh powder in our Utah mountains, or running on the beach whenever I can get to one.
I am a lover of Bruge Waffles, Lace Cookies with fresh peaches, and crepes with Strawberries and Nutella. And I am perfectly prepared to fight anyone who tells me that fruit cooked in pie is better than any of the above.
